What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is India’s traditional medical system help you to shift your habits and routines to create balance between energies of bodies with the energies of universe. Ayurvedic medicine focuses on restoring the balance between a person's mind, body, spirit, and environment.

Ayurveda is taken from the Sanskrit words ayur meaning life or lifespan, and veda, meaning knowledge. It has been practiced in India for at least 5,000 years, and has recently become popular in Western cultures.

Is Ayurveda helpful in treating disease and maintaining health?

The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent and treat illness by maintaining balance in the body, mind, and consciousness through proper diet, and lifestyle, as well as herbal remedies.

“Being a full [traditionally understood and used] system, ayurveda works with the etiology and pathology of disease [according to ayurvedic beliefs and understandings] to treat diseases.”

When a person is imbalanced (physical, mental or spiritual health), they’re likely to develop disease. Ayurveda focuses on recommending lifestyle, diet and natural treatments, therapies and remedies to provide balance among your physical body, mind, spirit and the world around you.

Does Ayurveda recommend different lifestyle and diet as per individual's body constition?

Every individual is unique, and Ayurveda defines a person’s specific constitution (Prakriti). According to Ayurveda, these prakriti determine your physical, psychological, behavioral and immunological traits. Different constitutions respond to different treatments, so what is recommended for you might not work for someone else. Ayurveda suggest you :

  • What is unhealthy for your body type?

  • What is healthy for your body?

  • What daily routine is recommended for your body constitution?

  • What diet is healthy for you?
